🌱 Permaculture in Action – 2-Day Workshop (Brussels)
📅 2–3 May 2026
In a time of climate breakdown, social tension, and endless “solutions” that do not seem to solve anything, many people are left angry, overwhelmed, or unsure where to begin. On top of that, greenwashing and conflicting narratives make it hard to know what is actually meaningful.
This workshop offers something different. A clear and grounded way of thinking and acting.
🌍 Permaculture: a design system for real solutions
At its core, permaculture is not just about food growing. It is a design system for creating positive, lasting solutions that support:
- 🌍 Mother Earth and ecological regeneration
- 🤝 People and communities
- 🔄 Long term resilience and continuity
It helps us step back from symptoms and instead work with patterns, relationships, and systems, so we can design outcomes that improve life rather than degrade it.
Rather than offering single isolated fixes, permaculture teaches us how to observe cause and effect patterns, understand how systems behave, and design interventions that improve the whole.
Crucially, it also gives us practical, reusable tools for analysis and design that you can apply in many contexts, from land and food systems to communities and organisations.
🌱 What we will work with
Across the weekend we will explore real world application areas such as:
- Food sovereignty and resilient local food systems
- Water cycles, including soil hydration and aquifer recharge
- Increasing biodiversity and ecological repair
- Carbon sequestration and climate positive land use
- Strengthening community resilience and cooperation
These are not separate issues. They are expressions of interconnected systems. Permaculture helps us understand those connections and work with them.
🛠️ Day 1: Foundations, design thinking and first steps
We begin with an introduction to permaculture as a way of thinking, observing and designing systems, and explore:
- The global and local challenges we are living through
- Why so many people feel stuck between urgency and uncertainty
- How systems thinking reveals deeper patterns behind visible problems
- The ethics of permaculture as a foundation for decision making and design
From the very start we begin a live design process, using practical tools to analyse situations, identify patterns and begin shaping real responses.
You will learn reusable tools for analysis and design that help you:
- Make sense of complex situations
- Identify patterns and leverage points
- Move from overwhelm into clear, grounded action
Day 1 is about shifting perception, from fragmentation and frustration into clarity, direction and possibility, while beginning an actual design that will continue through the weekend.
🌿 Day 2: Completing the design and hands on practice
We continue and complete the permaculture design that began on Day 1.
We then move into hands on practical work, shaped by the design process and what emerges from the group. This may include working with land, soil, water, plants or other real world applications depending on context and opportunity.
The focus is learning by doing, and seeing how permaculture principles and tools translate into tangible action and meaningful change.
📍 Venue
Venue address given upon registration.
💸 Contribution
This workshop is offered on a conscious contribution basis:
€40 to €200 for the full weekend
An ideal midpoint contribution is €120, which helps support the running of the course while keeping it accessible.
If cost is a barrier, please get in touch. We want this to remain open and inclusive.
